What is Certification?

Snowsports Certification is:

  • Accredited by the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI)

  • Nationally recognized - all PSIA-AASI Member Schools use the same methodology and framework for their lessons and training

  • Achieved through on and off-snow training geared towards:

    • Technical Skiing or Snowboarding

    • Movement Analysis & Technical Knowledge

    • People Skills & Professionalism

    • Teaching Skills

  • Choose from any or all of 5 Main Disciplines:

    • Alpine Skiing

    • Snowboarding

    • Telemark

    • Cross Country

    • Adaptive

  • Three main levels of certification recognized Nationally

    • Cert 1 - Through the Beginner zone

    • Cert 2 - Through the Intermediate Zone

    • Cert 3 - Through Advanced and some Experienced Zones

  • Rocky Mountain Trainer - A “fourth level” for trainer development

  • Specialist Programs give depth of knowledge:

    • Children’s Specialist 1 & 2

    • Freestyle Specialist 1-3

  • Continuing Education is required to stay current and in good standing

    • 1 day = 6 CEUs (Continuing Education Units)
